Looking for a good pest control contractor in SF.

Asked by David West, San Francisco, CA Wed Aug 21, 2013

Bought an old home a few months ago and want to address the potential pest issues raised in the disclosure documents. Looking for someone who is trustworthy and doesn't cut corners (unless those corners harbor pests). Someone who can handle mold, wood beetles, and termites.

I am glad to hear you are taking action with pest control before it actually becomes a problem. It's easier to deal with before you have an infestation as opposed to after the bugs set in. If you are looking for one in your area I would recommend asking your neighbors and friends for who they used and what they cost. Getting quotes from several different companies would be good too. Good luck!

I know what you mean Lewis, you are going to want to get this problem taken care of ASAP. I'm glad to hear that they are taking an action before it gets too bad. There should be a lot of different companies in your area. You just have to do a little bit of research. The internet is a really great tool to use.

I agree that having a great pest control company is so important. That's why I would suggest calling around to the locals you know in that area. They should know who to refer you to as well as who is going to help you best in your situation. I would definitely try giving them a call soon.

You should look for a company that you think you can trust. If you do your best to get to know the company before hiring them, you should have a good idea of what kind of help they can offer you, and how good they are at the work they do. Just make sure that your hiring a company that is going to do the work as well as you would do it if you were qualified, and you'll be fine.

I have been thinking about getting my house checked for termites. I think I'm seeing some signs of termites in my basement. I really don't want to have a problem selling my house in a few years. I better get it checked out.

Hi David - Hope your job is done by now, but in case pest control is still on your list, IMO the very best you can do is The Hastie Termite Co. 415-531-9384 Harry Hastie

You won't regret calling Harry.

I have some unwanted pests in my yard. I assume if they are in my yard, it's only a matter of time before they get in my house. I would like to avoid the latter if at all possible. What kind of precautions can I take to prevent this? Let me know.

If you have quite a few pest problems, you'll need to find a good pest service to make sure that they can take care of it all. I would start by asking some neighbors, in case they have had the same type of pest problems in the past. Then you can get good, honest opinions so that you can get the best pest control available to you.

I think asking your neighbors would be a good place to start. They know the area, and maybe they have already used a local service and they know which one is best. Other wise you probably should look at all the local companies and see which one has the highest rating.

It would be a good idea to ask your neighbors for recommendations and referrals. Keep in mind that the best price is not always the best option. My grandparents always pay the premium when spraying for spiders, but they never have any problems with pests after one good spray per year. This may be all that you need.

I think that you should ask your neighbors for recommendations. Roaches are extremely difficult to eradicate, and you need someone that knows what their doing. You want verification that they have successfully removed a roach infestation before.

I would call neighbors and friends around your area. Odds are, if you're having problems with certain pests, they are too. They will know who to call and whose service to hire. Good luck and I hope you're able to get everything taken care of!

Lingruen and Markoff are my favorites. I've used them on several deals.

Good luck!

Clear Skies Pest Control - Eric is awesome. He uses organic natural pesticides, very thorough and goes above and beyond when inspecting. He is extremely knowledgeable and a super nice guy!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm definitely in the market for anything organic. I want the pests out of my house, but I'd like to do it as humanely as possible. Anything that's eco-friendly would also be a plus.

Hello David, we usually work with NBI, California's largest privately owned company. or Diverse Inspection. We worked with Marco who is very experienced. Diverse might be a bit more expensive with their estimates though.

Good luck!

I would call around your area and see if there are any that are recommended. The locals there will have a good idea of who you should call. They've lived there for awhile and will know where to go. Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.
