Is there any way to put on a new Mediterranean tile roof w/out spending a fortune in S. Florida?

A home I am thinking of buying in Ft. Lauderdale needs a new roof. I have heard that the Mediterranean style ones costs over $35,000 for a one story ranch. What other choices are available that would look fine and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg?

Would you consider a standing seam metal roof? I am installing one a home I am building right now. They are becoming very popular in South Florida and have more of a contemporary Key West or Bahama feel. In addition they are more energy efficient and tend to withstand hurricanes better. I know that there are tax credits available and credits from FPL. For more info read up on http://www.coolmetalroofing.org/.

try Gomez roofing in Pompano , @ 1015 NW 31 Ave (954) 974-4848. Nice tile work, not rip-off artists.

Probably speak direct with professional roofers in area, determine what fits within your plan and etc.

Beth,

You are pretty much on target for the cost of a replacement tile roof. They ARE expensive considering a standard asphalt shingle roof could probably be done for under $10,000.

Many home buyers are attracted to this style roofing and either consider purchasing newer construction to resolve this issue or seek a home that has recently had the roof replaced.

On the other hand, you may be able to discount a homes asking price significantly because of the replacement issue.
