Does anyone know how much appraisers are giving for finished, daylight basements? We are considering adding on to our home and part of the addition

Asked by Mrst06, Rowan County, NC Thu Feb 18, 2010

would include adding on to our existing daylight basement (would have windows, etc.)? We are trying to decide if it's worth the investment! Thanks!

Along with the other 2 answers, a third option is that your real estate agent could give you an "idea" if it's worth the investment (for free) by performing a current market analysis for you; with and without the addition. This would allow you to see your return on the investment if you had to sell the home in the current market. IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT REAL ESTATE AGENTS ARE NOT APPRAISERS AND DO NOT PERFORM APPRAISALS.

Best contact an appraiser much work is involved in order establish value, and benefit for you and your investment.

It is adding on to your home depends on what you will do, from full bath? 1/2 bath ? Wet bar? Flooring, lighting, size of space, and additional features.

You may want to invest a few hundred dollars and meet with an appraiser to discuss your plans. Let him/her review the blueprints and materials schedule and the existing space to be converted/remodeled. After consulting you should have a pretty good idea of the homes value after your project has been completed. Good Luck.
