It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want a quiet community, Carlisle and Hartford are very nice. Bondurant. If you want something that is growing and the "in" place try Ankeny, Waukee, or West Des Moines.

As somebody who has lived in the Des Moines area for 15 years, I've seen the area drastically grow. The most desirable suburban areas are Waukee, West Des Moines, and Ankeny. Of course the costs of buying in these areas, especially West Des Moines/Waukee, are significantly higher than the rest of the Des Moines metro area. Let me know if I can answer any more specific questions.

David, real estate professionals are forbidden by Federal and State laws to state which areas are more desireable. Perhaps a non professional will answer your question.
