Congrats on your upcoming move!! My husband and I have relocated from NJ, to NC, to TX and now to CO so I consider myself somewhat of a professional. I did tell my husband though that if we moved one more time that it would be somewhere that we stay for a LONG TIME!!! Colorado is not too shabby of a place I'd say!
As far as the Centennial area goes, this is a great place to live! Centennial is in the South Metro area and is surrounded by some other great communities like Highlands Ranch, Greenwood Village, Lonetree, and Parker.
Douglas County schools are great as well as Cherry Creek school district. There are some great neighborhoods that are in the Cherry Creek school district that boarder SE Aurora. You can find out all of the school rankings and additional information about school districts online.
Please feel free to reach out if you have not yet found a good real estate contact here on the ground in Colorado. I would be happy to help you guys in the transitional period of moving your life from the NE out to CO!
Let me know what questions I can answer!

Glad to hear you found a way to make it out to Colorado from New England. I found my way here from New Hampshire back in 1988 and it was the best thing I think I've ever done (well--besides getting married and having kids)
I live in the foothills above the density, traffic and big city feel of Denver and it's suburbs and yet just a short commute to downtown Denver or the Tech Center. The pristine, forested, mountain setting is amazing and somewhat reminiscent of the rolling mountainsides of New England but in a much drier, crisper environment. Homes in Evergreen also shorten the drive to the ski areas.
If you aren't locked on Centennial take a look at some videos and descriptions of Evergreen, Colorado at my web site or take a look at some neighborhood and town videos I put together at http://www.youtube.com/EvergreenRealEstate
Good luck and welcome to Colorado!

My family and I relocated here from Newton, Ma and certainly still love New England but call Colorado home. I would be delighted to discuss with you the pro's and con's of the schools in Centennial and help with your home buying process. We live in an area with trees and great open space for biking, hiking and playing!
Hope to hear from you and I know you will find Colorado a warm and welcoming place.

I relocated here a few years ago with children so understand the process very well. Centennial is a great area and convenient to many great shopping malls, DTC, I25. Centennial could fall under Cherry Creek Schools which have a very good reputation, and also Littleton schools. I have attached a link which shows the boundaries
Public schools you are looking at 25-30 kids a class give or take, if you want a smaller option you may consider private of which there are many great ones close to there. Here are some links which I hope will help
And finally, the link below will give you an idea of the area and homes in it.
