Theresa,
I have lived in SW Florida since 1995 and raised a child here. She will be a sr next year at Cape Coral HS and has received an excellant education. Could it be better? Yes, in certain areas........but you can say that about any school you choose to send your child to.

The homes in Cape Coral have tremendous price points and you will find more for your money here. I would love to help you find a home for your family.

Theresa,
As a life long educator, my sincere recommendation is to invest in a visit to south Florida for the specific purpose of gaining first hand information on this very important issue. A well planned vacation could accomplish a lot more that one might expect.

If the children are old enough, involve the children in the process. It will give them the opportunity to participate and take partial ownership for the final decision of where to locate. They might surprise you with their insight and ability to rise to the occasion.

Good luck,

oh it is so sad that the person who has a child in pricey, exclucive Canterbury can't even correctly spell Ft Myers.
There is an excellent Catholic School in Cape Coral St Andrew, where the students have scored in the top 10 percent of the nation on the ITBS tests and go on to either the local public high schools, the IB programs , Bishop Verot or Canterbury. The charter school is an option but I think they are a bit full of themselves and are more talk than substance. I do not belive the students are learning all that they say they are teaching them. The house values are coming back to affordable but there is a gap with salaries. True if you are in the medical field you will do ok. We have lived here for 15 years and are very happy

Wow, I'm surprised by the first 2 answers. Cape Coral is a great place to live. We have many great schools available. We also have school choice and all of the schools are rated so you can pick the ones you like the best. We also have a few private schools & charter schools as well. Check the link below for more information. I've live in Cape Coral since 1994.

My advice...Don't move to the Cape. That is unless, you love the look of tatoos, the idea of gangs, people that tell your kids to get the F out of their yard, and the whole Red Neck thing. By the way, I live in a gated community. Silly me, I thought when people built in an area like this they all planned on following the rules. It has been a nightmare. Public school was not a happy experience either. But the weather is perfect!

I really do not recommend the sw for young kids. The majority of the population is older 50ish and up. Although, more young family are migrating to this area.
The public schools in FL are poor to begin with, if not the worst in the nation. I cannot believe they all classified themselves at A rated schools. I wonder what these schools compare themselves with to give themselves an A. They have this beliefs that uniforms, an article of clothing will make the child brighter and excell in school. Although, there are no facts or statics to prove these ridiculous beliefs. I wish the public schools in Fl would concentrate more on curriculum, teachers and safety. My child attends private school in Ft. Meyers called Canterbury. It's pricey but well worth it.
The cost of living is high. Prepare yourself when you go to the supermarkets especially the produce$$$$$ The electric company charges high fees. I lived in a house double the size with high ceilings of where I am now and I cannot believe that my bills in FL are higher. :( Unemployment is high. If you are in the medical field your chances of obtaining employment are great. I highly recommend that you find employment before you plan your move.
On a positive note (sorry if I came across a bit negative but just being truthful) the weather and beaches are beautiful. If I would to move again and stay in the state it would be to the Tampa area. Why, there more families with childrens and yes they are friendlier :)

As per housing you can find a great deal on a home. There are alot of short sales and forecolsure.
