Im sorry...that's very unfurtunate for you but not much you can do. You can try going to the city to see if anything can be done but most likely they will say no. I can't imagine your frustration as this was such a huge purchase for you. Sorry :)

Your house could have blocked someone elses sun.

That is what happens when someone buys a house on a very small lot. Anything else put in next door and you lose your view, your sun, and your privacy. Of course those things were never really yours. It just appeared that way.

Unfortunately if local codes are being obeyed, not much that can be done to prevent the property from being built.
