As an Indian-American living in Oakland County, there is a pretty sizable Indian community here. There are Indian grocery stores (including Patel Brothers on 13 mile Road in Farmington Hills and Vandana in Novi), Hindu temples (including the newly-expanded Bharatiya Temple on Adams Road in Troy, the Parashakti Temple in Pontiac and others) and other facilities.
As for hospitals, there is plenty available including Botsford in Farmington Hills, Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield and St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, among others.
Good luck and welcome to the community!!!
First, let me welcome you to Michigan and Oakland County. While it is true that Fair Market Housing laws prohibit realtors from "steering" clients to communities, we can provide you with various places and websites that can answer your questions and needs. There are a couple of wonderful websites such as http://www.miindia.com and http://www.detroitindia.com. I always recommend our local police departments to people new to the area. They are a wonderful source of information regarding crime rates, specific neighborhoods, etc. My own website can search for listings in an easy to use map fashion. There you can request to add such items as schools, public, private, etc., churches, restaurants, libraries and many other community assets to the map. If you would like any more additional information, please do not hestitate to ask.
Real Estate professionals are prevented by Federal and State laws from providing some of the information you're requesting.
Trulia, does have lots of information about communities, simply open the details page of any home and scroll down the page. Another source would be http://moveinmichigan.com and check under communities while searching the area.
For stores, you can try http://google.com and select maps from the top of the screen. This will let you search for types of businesses. You can also try Yahoo Local for similar information, or http://walkscore.com Each will have reviews by members. I believe medical facilities will also be available on these sites.
For crime rates. The State Police, County sheriff, or community websites may have information about crime.
Good luck with your search, perhaps another member will have some better websites.
