Val,

I hope that you have found Reno and are still looking for a few fun things for your son. My boys love: The Coconut Bowl (bowling, video games, parties, mini golf, race cars, roller coaster and an indoor play ground), Wild Waters water park, Virginia lake-for the ducks and the dogs, Tahoe--except don't bring towels and pretend that it is a normal beach--bring string, a bucket and a pound of bacon for crawdad fishing at Sand Harbor. Stay in the regular market beaches, rumor has it there might be a lingering scantily clad one there still. There are great indoor climbing parks, outdoor skate parks and wonderful group activities.

I would check out childrens programs and classes through the University of Nevada, YMCA, Sparks Rec, Reno Rec and definately anything that is going on during Art Town on the river. When it gets too cold outside, there is laser tag in the Grand Sierra and a bunch of great activities that he will learn about from friends at school.

If you haven't bought yet, drive ALL the neighborhoods in Northern Nevada and pick one that you and your family feel great in.

Welcome to town. Your son will love it here--soon. :).

Val there are many great places to raise a 12 yr. old boy here in Reno. It really just depends on your needs, wants, hobbies, and of course budget. I would suggest contacting a local realtor and tell him/her your specific needs. Welcome to Reno!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dayton Valley is affordable and Just 14 miles east on highway 50. The community offers a middle school, growing community with city sports available.

Val, If you like a rural setting to live in check out the Fernley area. Fernley is 30 miles east of the City of Reno, and acts as a bedroom community. Also Fernley has all the amenities to live here, such resturants, shopping, & activities for kids, like little leage baseball, soccer, & football. Miles of outdoor recreation. My web site is loaded with helpful info about Fernley and Nevada Real Estate. http://www.JeffDakin.com

Hi Val
This is Robin Coons from Chase International Distinctive Properties. The South Surburban side of Reno offers easy access to Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Most important are the pine trees. Feel free to access my website http://www.robincoons.com for information about everything to do in Reno- Tahoe

Hi Val, it's Ron Bell from Coldwell Banker Village Realty. Looking at photos over the years of New Hampshire, I am assuming your are into trees, fall colors, a sense of community and know your neighbor type of area. My recomendation would be what is called Old Southwest, it has brick homes, old trees, walk to the river and downtown etc. It is an area that hasn't been speculated on as much and is not full of foreclosures, abandoned properties and rentals like some other areas.

The opposite of this of course would be some of the newer areas. You will see Home Depot $19.00 six foot hight twigs for trees. These areas tend to have Californiaitus; you may not know your neighbors as they hit their garage door openers and go in for the night only to have it open again in the morning and let them out. These areas tend to have landscape companies take care of the exteriors so good luck having a chat while they work on their yards. I can speak from experience as I live in one of these areas. There are some neighbors that I don't even know their names although we have invited them to parties etc. of ours. Just the other day, my HOA wanted to fine us for my daughter marking a chalk hop scotch on the street after one of these relocated Californians called security on her.

I guess what I am saying is to try and stay in the established areas if you want a more neighborly feeling. It is known (O.S.W.) as area 160 for mls search parameters. There are others, this is just my personal favorite. I hope these links go through, you of course are welcome on my site and search by map. I am not sure if this link will work, I am enclosing spread for example of prices just in case. Click Here to View Listings

Hi Val,

Reno has many great areas to make your new home. We are a four seasons community and are close to a lot of great outdoor activities. I lived in Boston for 10 years and visited New Hampshire a lot. I would think that other than moving away from friends and maybe family that it won't be a major change for you and your son. I would be happy to send you a relocation guide that if full of information about the Reno area. Just drop me an email to tahoejg@netzero.com and it will be on it's way.to you. After you receive the guide it would be my pleasure to answer any questons that you may have. I look forward to having you and your son join our community.

Regards,

John Graham
