What is life like in the St. Joe/Mexico Beach, FL area like? Is it as touristy as Panama City Beach and?

Destin? My husband and I are looking to relocate to the area. What is the job market like there? The infrastructure? What kinds of shopping/activities? The community itself? I visited there before on day trips and loved it and want to know how much it has changed over the past ten years. What I wish to do is at first find a nice trailer park , Are there any availabble that are pet friendly? A few months after that we plan to purchase a small parcel of land, say an acre or two near town and place a really nice modular home on it and not have to worry about Baton Rouge ever again!

Dorthy,

you will find the zoning restrictions in the St. Joe/Mexico Beach area limited to modular home placement; My advise to you is to look just outside the area Howards Creek/Red Bull Island and Shallow Reed each of these subdivisions welcome modular homes with parcels from .50 acres upto 2 acres. and pricing starting as low as $21,900 for .50 acres if you would like additional information on home sites with modular homes on site please let me know Cheers, See link below

Mexico Beach is still a very quiet town although there has been much housing construction the last 2-3 years. The beaches are well cared for and easily accessible with maintained walkways. There are no pets allowed on Mexico Beach. There is some shopping: clothes, souvenirs, furniture and decor; and dining in the center of town, a fishing pier and public boat ramps. Job availability depends on what you are looking for; most anything is available in Panama City (30 miles away). There are not really trailer parks but many for rent-some pets some not. I am including the contact number for Mexico Beach info.
Port St. Joe is not a beach community; it has no trailer parks I'm aware of but same rental info as MB. There are breakfast & lunch eating, and some dinner spots. There is a very nice branch library in St. Joe; the town is very involved in the school & summer sports programs. Both communities are very welcoming and friendly. St. Joe has furniture stores, clothing stores, pharmacies, several doctors and dentists, and a new humane society facility. There is a vet also. And the new hospital should be up in a couple years.
There are good areas for your modular in the future, some with acreage.

Destin/Santa Rosa Beach/Niceville area is a wonderful place to live and play!! I live here, and I LOVE it!! Destin is touristy in a good way--lots to do, great restaurants, but still very much small town atmosphere. Santa Rosa Beach area is very quiet, rustic, but very beautiful with large dunes, white sugar beaches. Great shopping, entertainment, activities to participate in. If you have any interest in the Navarre area, there is a really nice Camping ground/trailer parking area there. I would highly recommend the Freeport area for the type of building you are talking about--I work in Niceville/Destin/Santa Rosa Beach/Freeport areas, and would be happy to assist you.
