Hi Beryl, I live in Pacifica and I don't know what you consider affordable, but you can def have a yard and LOTS of places to walk your dog and meet other dog owners too. For being gay and feeling comfortable, of course you can find prejudice anywhere (even the city), but Pacifica is lovely and still bay area, so hopefully you would feel comfortable. Pacifica does have more fog than most other parts of the bay area, so that is the one reason some people don't move here. You have to like it a little cooler. You never need A/C for sure. Beryl, have you considered Bernal Heights in San Francisco? There are some affordable homes and two-unit buildings with lovely backyards. And, it's as dog-friendly as you can get. I have lived there for 3 years and have to say it's my favorite neighborhood in SF (I've lived in the city for 10 years).
