Hi, Welcome to Philly. It is really a great town. Philadelphia has such a rich history and some great old world charm. Moorestown , New Jersey was voted the number 1 place to live in America by Money magazine in 2006. You might want to look there. Best of luck.

Hi Caroline, I would suggest using a link like this to get snapshots of the local schools: http://chrisbenedict.remax.com/CommunityInfo/Default.aspx

You can enter areas in, and get all kinds of great info about communities, schools, demographics, etc.

Of course, I recommend you drive out to areas you may be interested in. If you see lots of swingsets and bikes in people's yards, that is a good indicator of a child-friendly neighborhood!

If you are thinking Delaware County, I recommend Havertown...lots and lots of families there!

There are several great suburbs in the Philly area, if you want to be closer to the ocean and don't mind the commute from NJ Moorestown & Haddonfield are historic colonial towns that have amazing main street's but that small town america is unique and it will reflect in the home prices. School systems in both are second to none in the state.
Riverton Nj is nice right on the delaware river with sailing classes for kids at NJ's oldest yacht club and a great river front walking path. I lived in Riverton for a couple of years great town and taxes aren't killer, but the highschool option isn't the best. Can't speak on Pa counties.
