Issues with Lake area in Newark, CA?

Asked by Thiagarajan Hariharan, Fremont, CA Thu Sep 26, 2013

A friend of mine said there are a couple of issues with the Lake area in Newark, CA.
- Mosquitoes - if true, how bad is the problem?
- Moisture due to proximity to lake, which can cause high humidity and potentially damage house
Do these issues really exist? Thanks.

Absolutely not. The Lake neighborhood in Newark is a fantastic place to live, I can speak from personal experience. Additionally, they are currently upgrading the seawall and will be paving the walkway around the lake. It is a very family – friendly neighborhood. It is, without question, one of the nicest neighborhoods to live in the entire Tri-City area.

I want to add a couple of comments ... a post below stated, "The largest complaint about that area is the seagulls." I'd disagree - since I live close enough to the Lake to throw a rock at it ... sure there are seagulls, but not in the quantities you'd see at the landfill or even Half Moon Bay. Instead, there are Canadian Geese, lots of varieties of ducks, a large contingency of beautiful white pelicans, double-crested cormorants who fish in the mornings, grebes, gorgeous egrets, swifts, swallows (who dive face first into the lake in the evenings for dinner), blue herons ... and on and on. Add in fishing derbies for children a few times a year, LARA (Lake Area Residents Association) Ice Cream socials at the lake ... it's a GREAT place to live.

Just a thought here, you might want to look into the Adenwood or Mission District. They don't have much train noise and not too much wildlife. Just a thought.

Hello Thiagarajan,

A while back I sold a home on the island in the lake area, it is a wonderful neighborhood, all the people I met there in the open houses love it there.
I didn't hear of any of the issues you mentioned from the homeowners in the area I met.

Hi I agree with Carl as well. If I were moving to Newark I would definitely want to be in the lake area. It is a beautiful part of the town and if you worried about mosquitos you can always buy a citronella plant. I have a pool and have a couple in my back yard and I never have a problem with mosquitos....Dawn

Hi There Thiagarajan,

I think you are doing a great job of researching the areas in Newark to live. As a resident of Newark for more than 30 years and my father who has been running Rainbow Funding for more than 35 years I can tell you that Carl is correct. The Lake area is widely considered the best area in Newark. I don't know if mosquitoes is a huge issue or not but I have never heard anyone complain about that. The largest complaint about that area is the seagulls. There are quite a few roaming around but I do not believe they bother anyone or go into people's yards. Where are you moving from? Do you have an opportunity to see Newark before moving here? I would love to talk more to you about your budget and options. Not trying to sell you I just know a lot about this area.

Thanks
