The landlord unsucessfully tried selling the home, then rented it out, through their realtor. The realtor failed to give any notice and let pest control into the property less than 18 hours after I informed pest control I was not available that day. The realtor called me at work as they were leaving saying the pest control guy was in the house. My lease explicitly states 48 hours written notice to enter the premises without my permission. Recently, the realtor contacted me about lawncare (it was approximately 3 inches tall, 2 weeks growth) and was extremely condescending on the phone. I feel as if I am being watched and am being treated like a child, and have been more than willing to work with the landlords (they partially moved out of the house, still have a considerable amount of belongings in the house) only to apparently be walked over. The landlord tried to get me to take out insurance on the house, other than renters insurance as well.
First of all if you are a renter you are under no obligation to purchase renters or any other type of insurance for the property. You mentioned a realtor is bothering you. It is time for you to contact that realtor and find out what you can about why they are involved. The owner may be collecting rent and not paying his mortgage. This means the real estate company may have a vested interest in the property. You may want to contact the housing authority for your state and county to help you with legal matters and to find another place to live if things go sour.
I agree with bill not saying you have to be best freinds with the landlord but you do need to talk and if you are both adults there should be a way to work out the problems. As for the Insurance typicaly that is paid by landlord unless otherwise put in writting and the orginal agreement - As for the Realtor not very professional I always try to be nice and honest to anyone I meat because never know who your next client might be or know
B,
It sounds like you and your landlord need to sit down for a cup of coffee and get to know one another. This may open the door to understanding each other a little better.
Misunderstandings are a part of life that only become problems if we allow them to........if you ignore the opportunity to correct the issue, as you can see, problems only get bigger.
You can overcome this if you choose.
Good luck,
