Is there any truth to the rumor that the State of New Jersey is planning to build a huge power plant directly across from St. George?

Unfortunately the answer is yes. The power plant has been proposed. According to published reports the power plant would only be 1,600 feet away from our St. George shoreline, directly across the Kill Van Kull. It is also reported to have a 155 foot tall smoke stack. On the New Jersey side of the water officials were quick to note that the plant would be at least a mile from the closest NJ residence, but only 1600 feet from the forgotton borough of Staten Island. Fortunately Rep. McMahon , and many other Staten Island Officials have protested to the Environmental Protection Agency in an effort to halt this project. Let's hope they succeed.
