Is Plano a good area, with low crime and good shopping? Can you buy a decent home for under $150,000?

I have grown up here and Plano is the best! You can buy a decent home under 150k, but look towards the older neighborhoods.

Hi Luara:

I wonder if you have bought your home already. If not, I used to live in Plano, still have great friends there. .

We loved what Plano can offer as far as schools, jobs, shopping, parks and recs, etc. There are a lot to do. I also remember the wonderful baloon festivals we went to.

We have great memories there.

YES! It will of course depend on the part of Plano you choose. I have sold great homes in west Plano at your price range. You might want to consider Allen also if your work location would make it possible.
Call me if you are still looking.

There are homes in Plano around the $150K range. I think you could expect a 3 bedroom, 2- bath, 2-car garage around 1800-2200 s.f.
I found several close to Central Expressway and Spring Creek. Some needed some repairs.

Well, we're proud of our vast shopping options, even when it comes to homes! If you want a single-family detached home, you'll find quite a few, especially if up to around 2,000SF is large enough. There are many townhouses & condos in that range, but you must consider the homeowner's association dues in your monthly payment budget. Plano is a large suburb, with a population well over 200,000 and a diverse mix of neighborhoods and home sizes and values. Two recommendations: 1) come to Plano and drive around if you can and observe the differences from area to area, and 2) get an experienced agent who knows Plano and have them help you compare homes and neigborhoods so you'll be delighted with your purchase decision. Home buying is a big transition we don't make often, and your agent matters!

Hi Laura,

Cher, Tom Cruise and Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana) fly into the Plano area to go shopping. It's pretty darn good! :) There are many nice homes for around the $150 mark. If you'll send me your e-mail, I can send you all kinds of stats on crime and such. It's a suburban area.

Happy to help,
Terri Hayley

Laura,

Typically speaking, Realtors are prohibited from giving you an opinion on whether a neighborhood is high crime, or not. Your best bet is to contact the local police station for statistics about the area in question.

Good luck, and I hope the answer was helpful.
