Sherman, opportunities, things to do, etc. Would the locals recommend moving there and why? Thanks.

I grew up in Sherman and Denison and am about to move back to that area. As a child I hated it. There was little to do and it was all a little too rural for my taste. As an adult, however, I think the slower pace and lower cost of living will suit me quite well. There are things to do, such as the local community theater and symphony orchestra, but of course not as much as you would find in a larger city. Luckily, activities and wonderful shopping can be found as close as McKinney (36 miles to the South). Traffic has gotten worse in the past few years and there are certainly some people who could be called snobs, but I've found that to be true in any location. Jobs can be hard to come by depending on your profession.
Really it would depend on what you enjoy. If a more rural (and yes, even redneck) environment with a laid back pace would suit you then Sherman might be a good fit. I hated growing up there but am looking forward in a way to moving back.

Sherman "SUCKS", too much traffic and the people are very snobby.
STAY AWAY!
Denison is great, check it out.

Bruce - Thanks for your response, but could you elaborate a little on what you did not like about Sherman? What you dislike may be exactly what I am looking for. Was it too small for you, too big for you, nothing to do, not enough job opportunity? Thanks.

I lived in Sherman for 4 years as a student. I liked the college life, but I personally did not like the city life. That's just my personal opinion. It is close to Lake Texoma and that was nice to visit often. Also it has a small town feel, but not far from Dallas if you need the city life.
