heard gangs, drugs ,shootings . Is it really that bad our agent says NO its massively improved. Very scared are my fears warrented or not ? Thank you for youre input
Cindy, I;ve been showing in the area for the last several weeks. I have found some great buys.. In any area you need to check out the area before closing. Using a 3 to 5 day neighborhood review gives you sometime to do your homework. Tacoma has a great downpayment assistance for that area as well as other areas in Tacoma depending on your income and the number of people in your family.. Your agent is correct in saying it is massively improved. Best of luck in your purchase.
Hi Cindy,
I would be happy to discuss the Hilltop with you! I have lived in the area for several years and worked there for many more without any problems! Give me a call and we can chat!

Hi Cindy,
An additonal tool is the ability to write any offer subject to a satisfactory neightborhood review. You are wise to do your homework wherever you decide to live.
Good luck to you.
Cindy, the Hilltop community has definitely seen an improvement and you'll find that many people are now referring to it as New Tacoma to get beyond the stigma of its past.
For your research, another source of information is to go to the City of Tacoma Police Department's Neighborhood Crime Page where you can enter a specific property address or a community name to get information on the area. One of the keys for comparison purposes is to also know what the statistics were like for the neighborhood that you are coming from. Many people are surprised at what they learn when they research their current neighborhoods, too!
Hope this helps!
You can check crime statistics for yourself online (there are many sites, http://www.city-data.com has a lot of demographics). This will give you the best understanding when considering the neighborhood, Cindy. When we moved to Tacoma 16 months ago, I thought the same as you, but have met some wonderful neighbors and changed my mind. I suggest to my clients to go to the neighborhood at all hours, sit in the car and listen to what the neighborhood is really like at various times of the day. Sometimes we also knock on doors of the neighbors and tend to get an earful.
