Walkability and safety are important. Is the area safe or dodgy? Are there restaurants and cafes nearby? Any good alternatives worth considering?
Downtown St. Pete should definitely be considered. Everything is within walking distance, cafe's, movie theater, grocery store, mall, the Vinoy hotel, and more. I have an incredible loft/condo listed in McNulty Lofts that comes furnished with everything (high end furniture, flat screen tvs, washer/dryer, silverware, linens). It has gorgeous views of the downtown area and also the water through floor to ceiling windows. To see it go to http://welovetampa.com/ It's the one on 2nd street for $299k FURNISHED.

Mark,
Personally, I think of the Hyde Park area more for restaurants, cafes, walking, etc. It is a little pricier, but well worth the investment. Downtown Tampa and Channelside are just starting to make a mark in the residential market. I would drive and walk thru both before making any decisions. I also recommend downtown St. Pete. on the other side of the bay. It has great bistros, an older downtown and a great waterfront area to walk.

Hello Mark
Channelside is a great area and there are a number of deals occuring in that location.
Since I live in the downtown area I am a little partical to this location. There is a ton to do and walk to and the location is growing daily.
