Actually, you can see a map representation of where crimes occur and by type of crime. This will not assure that you and your neighbors will not be victims, but the likelihood of becoming victimized can be minimized. You will notice from the map that some areas, notably gated communities, tend to have much lower rates for burglary and assault. Check this map out http://spotcrime.com/tx/arlington or this one crimeweb.net (although they don't have a nice interactive map).

Dallas also runs a mapping of crime statistics but just inside the city limits http://maps.dallascityhall.com/index.asp?mo=CrimesOnMap

Unfortunately, as Bruce points out, every area has some crime, but some areas are much less prone to street crimes than others.

Unfortunately we cannot really recommend safe vs unsafe areas.
Crime is everywhere unfortunately.
Probably best if you call the police department and ask for CRO or Community Resource Officer.
They can provide you with statistics for different areas and they are the official source of information.
Getting this kind of information from a realtor is probably not the best source of good info.
