Iiztaccihuatl, Home Buyer in Shallowater, TX

How's town life in Shallowater? Moving from NJ for the open space and the schools look fantastic. Is it a good place to raise a family?

Schools are the best! Great Ambulance, police force and volunteer Fire Dept. First Baptist church Shallowater has the highest percentage attendance per city population in the state! Great weather, great people and friendly community.

Shallowater, TX is very small and very quiet. It is a haven from the hustle and bustle of Lubbock but close enough (10 miles) to afford easy access to shopping and services. People are generally friendly and helpful. It is easy to get to know your neighbors and their is a spirit of "neighborliness" throughout the town. The schools have a good reputation for academics but there is mild gang activity and mild drug activity present if you believe the rumors. I have no kids in school so I can't verify this. The town has a small grocery store that carries very basic items. There is a convenience store with gas pumps and a local hardware store. There are several hair salons (at least 3). One salon offers tanning and manicures/pedicures. There is a small health clinic with a good doctor. New homes are being built in Shallowater in a variety of price ranges and the area is considered by Realtors to be "up and coming." The draw back to the community is that you have to drive to Lubbock for most services, goods, restaurants, recreation, and shopping. Lubbock is very spread out so you can put lots of miles on your vehicle quickly. That's about it.
