How much has the 520 repaving project improved noise levels for those living on the 'Point'?

Stan, I have noticed that the repaving has worn down. I commute the 520 everyday running down to drop and pick up my son from School & business in the City. The paving seems to be worn down most coming west on 520 just after the area where the toll booths used to be. How has this effected the residents on the South side of 520?

My property sits next to the 17 acre nature preserve and 520 hwy. The reduction in noise since the new surface paving has been great! Although I never really paid much attention to the "white noise" in the past, I did notice the overall noise reduction. I put in a real nice water feature with the new landscaping last summer and feel it may have not been needed. Oh well, it makes a nice visual.

Adjacent our $1.8 million listing on Yarrow Point, adjacent the 520, are four new homes under construction due to market between $3.8 and $4.2 million this fall. These homes, like ours, are positioned to the north of the 520 where traffic travels downhill; much quieter than the South side, Clyde Hill. Too, once European-style coatings were tested last fall,we not only saw the priority being placed on improvement but real progress.

I'm a Medina resident since 1993 and an Eastside Realtor since 1992. My home is just a few blocks South of 520. The difference since the test paving was completed has been quite amazing. I honestly thought the bridge was still closed to traffic after it had been paved, it was so much quieter. Hopefully it will hold up well and be expanded.

That's excellent for your seller! Now just to get some more qualified buyers out there looking...

Thanks for that update. I have heard of this project in European countries too and never understood why we weren't doing it here. Someone once told me it was because some road workers would lose jobs because it held up so well...I think there are still plenty of projects for them out there.

Great question. I have a home listed on Yarrow Point whose property backs onto the 520, owned by the same family since 1992. He called the morning following the paving to say he's enjoying his morning coffee on his patio for the first time. A couple from the UK visited the home recently and chuckled about the surface test as they have first-hand experience in Europe with a similar process. "What's to test? It's been done for years in Europe and it works just great!" Too, they added it seems to hold up much longer than the usual pavement material. Finally, adjacent to our listed property are four (4) $4million homes under construction which share the same 520 proximity. Not sure, but their construction seemed to commence with that paving!

I really hope it lasts and they expand it...it is now so much quieter in that area and the road noise from inside my vehicle is amazing. I can't help by comment on it every time I drive over that portion of 520!

I noticed a big difference in the test area from inside the car while driving. Apparently the big question is will the noise reduction level last over time. If it does, I'm pretty sure you will see expansion of this project and more use of this repaving material in other areas.

I know a family who rents a place right in that area on 520. I was talking with them the other day about how the 520 repaving project as impacted their noise levels and got pretty positive feedback. There is still a lot of traffic in that area so there will continue to be noise...especially for those living right over the highway...like this family.

However, their feedback was that it has reduced noise...especially indoors with the windows closed. I would guess people who live a few blocks away will really notice a big difference.
