John....

The RTP area covers Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Chapel Hill, in Orange County, is a lovely college town atmosphere but homes there are pricey compared to Durham and Raleigh. The school system has a good reputation. Durham is more affordable with some trendy areas for shopping and restaurants but I would Google the stats for Durham County's crime rates. Raleigh is in Wake County and offers good shopping, restaurants and Whole Foods locations! The Wake County School system is undergoing some changes now due to a great influx of new students from relocating families like yours. A new assignment system has just been introduced. For more information and comparisons, please visit the school websites for each county.. http://.www.wcpss.net for Wake, http://www.dpsnc.net for Durham, and http://www.orange.k12.nc.us for Orange. Please feel free to contact me directly for more information on the area. I would be delighted to work with you and your family to find your new home in one of the best places in the live the world!

Hello! John,

The North Raleigh, Northwest Raleigh and the Cary/Apex Area which has close proximity to the RTP have good public schools. You may want to visit our website at http://www.CarolinaMaxRealty.com and go to the link "Neighborhood" where you can click on the Guides and Reviews and the Schools among other things. You will get several information and can even search for houses that active in the MLS. Good luck to you and your family!!

Hi John,
The best sourse is http://www.wcpss.net for the ratings on the schools. the secondary factor is price range for living accomodations ans locations to the other inportant factors to you such as shopping. The Whole food locations are on their website. If you require further help feel free to contact me.

Hi John. I would try Holly Springs. I live here and love it. It's quiet, affordable, and has great schools. Plus, the lots are larger than you'll find in Apex and Cary for lower prices.

The best schools in the area are considered, by many, to be those in Cary and in Chapel Hill. My husband teaches at Duke in Durham, so when we moved here we knew we'd be living in Chapel Hill., the best at the time. My suggestion is to look at the schools in both districts. Cary is part of Wake school district, many are served by local families, though I've heard that they've started going over to Briar Creek area (by bus) for middle school because one of them in Cary is overcrowded.

Honestly, I don't know as much about the Cary schools. I've been reading about the turmoil with Wake country schools for the past year, so check online to see where they are now. Both communities have a Whole Foods (big attraction when I moved to Chapel Hill though it was something else before being taken over by Whole Foods) and a Trader Joe's.

Congratulations on your job in RTP, not an easy coup these days.

Great questions. When are you planning to relocate? Our school system has undergone some massive changes in assignment procedures this coming school year and most of the selection process has been completed. I would recommend visiting the school board website to better understand how the new selections are being made for the remaining seats if there are any in the schools you are interested in. I have 2 school age children and one entering kindergarten so I have done an extensive amount of research on the situation. Feel free to contact me through me Trulia profile with specific questions.
