Does anyone know about jobs in Kona? My husband and I are strongly considering relocating there. He is an
IT Manager at Honeywell and I am a mental health therapist. If anyone has any advice or leads to find out, I'd appreciate it! It seems rather small, so it's one of our concerns. Thanks! Marla

Aloha, Marla. My husband Dave was an IT professional in the Silicon Valley for over 25 years before we moved to the Big Island five years ago. He now runs several businesses and is currently looking to expand his IT business. I would be happy to introduce your husband to mine so they can discuss "tech" on the BI. Please feel free to call me: 808-895-4327 or email: katie@lavarockrealty.com directly. Warm aloha, Katie

There are a few psychology contacts on page 4. Mental Health Professionals in the area: http://www.wellness.com/find/Psychiatrist/HI/KAILUA%20KONA http://www.addictionsearch.com/treatment_facilities/city/kai IT is going very strong in Hawaii. Again, Waimea is probably the place to go. You may need to commute to Honolulu for a while until something pops up locally (or start it yourself)! Aloha
I have a master's in Oceanography and worked at CEROS in a technology transfer position in 1997-1998. Technical jobs are rare in Kona. An IT manager could find something at one of the aqua-businesses at NELHA. You might also consider the observatories such as Keck with offices in Kamuela (Waimea). All health care professionals are in demand. When I moved here, I knew that I would have to be versatile in my job choices and it's worth it! There are plenty of available jobs. As a mental health professional I am sure you can find a job or open your own office, though you should check into lincesing at the dcca of hawaii. Perhaps your husband could open his own shop ... internet cafe or service center. It is small, but big. There is plenty of work for everyone ... you will just have to find your place. I always say whatever you do there you can do here, too.
