This is a great neighborhood to live in.

Chris and I sold a two flat around the corner a couple of months ago.

Best of Luck.

Dear Brenda,

This is not a question that Realtors are likely to answer in an effort to avoid being accused of "steering" you as a potential buyer either away from or toward any particular neighborhood/area.

I would suggest the following to give yourself a general sense of whether or not you and your family would feel comfortable in the area.

First I would suggest doing whatever you typically do in your current neighborhood in the neighborhood that you’re considering moving to. Whether that is walking your dog in the evening, or walking your child to the corner coffee shop in the morning, or just cycling around the neighborhood at midday. Walk, jog, or ride through the neighborhood at different times of day to “get a feel” for the neighborhood.

If you are considering a specific address, then you can call 311 (the City of Chicago's information services) and give them the address. They can tell you what if any police activity has been reported on that address.

You can also usually get general area crime statistics from the neighborhood Chamber of Commerce.
You can get general crime statistics from a newer online community "EveryBlock" which can be found at You can then search for Chicago and crime statistics.

You can visit the City of Chicago Police Department website and search for "Index Crime Statistics" or you can try the department's main website at
Let me know if you need any assistance in locating a property to purchase. Good luck.

If you want a straight answer go straight to the source. Call up the local police precinct and ask your questions.
