When you ask about utility costs the answer can come at you in many different ways. The cost per kilowatt, cost per gallon, etc. Then it can come at you based on how energy friendly the house is. Does it have solar, what is the quality of installation, does it have high quality windows, is the house north/south facing, does it have shade trees, does it have a swimming pool, and the list goes on. Then finally, how cold or hot do you like it, and how many people will be living in the house.

As you can see it is not an easy answer. You have the numbers to contact the different companies, but truthfully outside of historical costs, and the cost per kilowatt, etc the answer will not be simple.

Hi Judith,

The utility companies can provide you average usage for particular addresses (please see below).
We have lived in Maricopa since 2003 and we live in a 3000 sq ft home (two level). Our average usage when spread out over 12 months is $525.00 per month. (Please note our builder did not offer many energy efficient features when we purchased the home. We also have a pool, grass landscape, and run our business from our home.).

If you are considering buying a home in the area (Phoenix valley), I would suggest looking for the builder names of energy-efficient homes that are "Energy Star" certified. Here's the website: http://www.energystar.gov. Once you find a home that you like, your agent can look up who the original builder was for the property.

There are two builders in the valley who are now building "green" homes as well:
Meritage (builds in Maricopa)
Shea Homes

If you have any other questions, we're here to help.

Best Wishes,
Deborah Farhat
