Maria, Home Buyer in Denver County, CO

So I see in the DTC home I am looking at there are Cherry Creek and Denver schools listed. Can I just choose the ones I'd like my child to attend?

Maria-
This woud be another good reason to work closely with a Realtor. We will adjust our searches to pick the criteria that is most important ot you. I would start my search with price and school and evaluate whether we can find what you are looking for. If not we can increase price or change schools. Your REaltor can guide you through this process and make sure that you get great guidance!
Love to be that REaltor.

Maria,

All good answers so far. The good news is that all of the schools in the area are highly rated, whether Denver Public Schools, Cherry Creek Schools, or the great private schools in the area. It is good to have great options to choose from. As you have heard, if you go out of your district to apply at a different school the lists and waiting lines can be long. If you have a particular school in mind for your children and their special talents, I would apply now. The sooner you apply, the sooner you can move up the list for the school you want your children to attend. Good luck with your move and all the best to you for your children's education.

Maria,
I am born and raised in Denver. Cherry Ck schools are highly sought for Denver residents, But...The neighborhoods that are assigned to attend the Cherry Creek Schools are very specific and you must provide address documentation and confirmation to attend/register. I would suggest that you ask
a Realtor/Agent to search specifically for properties in the school dist. or even for a specific school that you would like for your child to attend. I will provide you with a website for you to search and qualify the rating for specific schools or areas.

Maria,

The school districts designate a school you go to for each grade level based on your address. However, you may get on a list if you have another preferred school. Although these lists may be long.

The designated school for each listed house for each grade level is available through MLS listing information.

Ask your broker for this information. If you do nothave a broker yet, you may call me to help you find it.

Good question and good luck in your home search!

Hi Maria,
Actually, this home (lovely!) is located in DPS. I find the following links handy to determine correct school boundaries:

Cherry Creek School: http://ps-images.ccsd.k12.co.us/AddressLocator/addresslocator.aspx
Denver Public Schools: http://maps.dpsk12.org/

Did you have a preference for school district? If you're looking for something in Cherry Creek Schools, we have a website that allows you to search by district, high school, or other criteria. See below.

If we can help in any way, please let us know :-)

Hi Maria,

Here is a look-up tool for the Cherry Creek School District. You may enter the address of a home and it will tell you if the home is in this particular district. This home is not in the Cherry Creek School District. You may click on this link or cut and paste to your browser and then identify the schools by address.

http://ps-images.ccsd.k12.co.us/AddressLocator/NotinBoundary.aspx

Some schools in this neighborhood are in the Denver Public School district. It is possible that you may "choice" to a particular school meaning if you live in one district you may enroll in another. It depends on availability. In Colorado your child has the option to attend any school in the district (called intradistrict choice) or outside the district (called interdistrict choice), as long as there is space. Students who attend unsatisfactory schools are given preference. Low-income students in grades 1-8 who attend low-performing schools are eligible for transportation tokens to attend a different school. Students can also attend charter schools.

Here is an additional web-site for School of Choice Information.
http://www.ccsd.k12.co.us/Admissions/StudentRegistration/

School of Choice
The Cherry Creek School District allows its resident students to apply for enrollment in the Cherry Creek Schools/programs of their choice. In other words, you may request that your children attend a Cherry Creek school outside your assigned attendance area. Requests are approved based on available space, and transportation arrangements are the responsibility of the family choosing this option. Applications will be available from November 16, 2009 through February 1, 2010 for the following school year. Call the District Admissions Office at 720-554-4550 for more information.

Maria, please don't hestitate to contact me should you need additional information. I have the ability to search for homes by school and school district by price range, etc..

Thank you.

Maria,

The school district that you will live in designates which school for each grade level that your children should attend. You can however apply to a different school. Sometimes these lists can be long.

The MLS for each house you look at will give you the school for each grade level that they should attend in your area. Ask your broker to help you locate the school based off the MLS.

If you do not have a broker/realtor yet, I would be glad to help you with that information.

Good question and good luck in your house hunting!
