Is there any way to get house out of my name without doing a short sale that would damage my credit history?

The short answer is no. We have attempted to obtain credit reporting advantage with SS lenders before but weren't able to. While the Huntsville Alabama real estate market is slowly improving SS of Huntsvilloe AL homes for sale are still common. https://plus.google.com/103794696247714608605/about?hl=en

You would either have to sell the home or have the other person on the mortgage refinance it into their name only.
