Property Q&A in Swillburg>Question Details

Jessica Robe…, Home Buyer in Rochester, NY

I saw this exact property for rent on Craigslist for $500/a month and I'm wondering if that was a scam.

Asked by Jessica Roberts, Rochester, NY Tue Jan 15, 2013

The person who contacted me stated they were no longer selling it but renting it out. I need to know wether that post on craiglist is a scam or not.

This was definitely a scam. I am the listing agent for 1136 S. Clinton in Rochester, and it is not available for rent. The property is sold and we are awaiting closing. If I can assist you in any other way, please feel free to contact me at: robert@rppsoldteam.com, or (585) 279-8145 in the office.

Keep in mind that scams do exist therefore always proceed with caution and verify ownership before exchanging any money; for information regarding scams see link below.

Looks to me like a scam. A house in that condition listed for sale for $92,000 would rent for way more than $500/mo. The listing office should be able to answer if the owner wants to rent it anytime in the future. Good luck

Jessica,

I have been victim of those kinds of scams. As Realtors, we often find our listings on Craigslist as rentals. BEWARE!

Do not give information or money to anyone...best bet, get a Realtor to represent you in your search.
