As others have said sometimes a start is with the tax records, but they're not always updated.
Do you have the address? Is there a for sale sign out?
Another way is to align yourself with a Buyer's Agent like myself to help you out.. The way to go sort of depends on exactly what kind of property you're talking about and it's location.
