How can something be considered a carriage house if it was built in 1960?

Asked by Erink, Los Angeles, CA Tue Apr 19, 2011

They don't have the year built on Trulia but when I look up the records on many websites it says it was built in 1960. Could it have been an old shop, like mechanic or such? or are the Year Built records innacurate sometimes in Philly?

Hi Erink,

Hannah gave you good information. You can also go to Philadelphia Zoning Archives and review those docs yourself. They may be available online as well at

It's 2022 Webster Philadelphia PA 19146

It's more curiosity if this building was more so built for other purposes than a carriage house. Like i said, maybe a Mechanic shop or something. I could see that with this space.

Although it is a great source for much information, I do not put much stock in the information in Public Records reagarding year built. The best way to determine age is to take a look at the original deed. If you are purchasing, this will be part of your title insurance. If you are simply curious before purchasing, you can call a title company and purchase a deed search.

Hi Erink
If you send me the address I can look it up on Public Records to get the build date. It's also possible that someone is just using the term "carriage house" - as a way to describe the "style" of the home - and not the age.
