I am wondering if you asked this question to compare this house to yours? Homes side by side can be up to $3000+ apart and be very similar. Taxes are only addressed as a cost when you buy as part of your payment qualification per month. If you have lived in your home prior to 1990 your taxes are going to be a lot lower than someone who bought after that because the city of Portland rolled taxes back 10% and then they have the right now to raise them 3% no matter what. Homes are usually assessed about 75% of true value but this does really make any difference either. When you buy a house your taxes might go up because the tax assessor sees what you paid or thru the permit process you did remodeling on the house and that value has changed the price upwards. If this house was for sale the taxes could be closer to $9000 after a sale in a few years from the assessed value and the size I would say it is way under assessed. I love the Irvington neighborhood. Irving Park, the local places of interest and the beautiful homes make it suck a sweet place to live. I invite you to check out this Irvington neighborhood blog to know more about this great inner NE Portland area.

Real simple- call a title company and ask or call the tax assessor and ask. Easy enough to do!

http://www.portlandmaps.com is a great resource. If it's outside of the Portland metro area it's a little tougher to get information quite as easily. You can also use http://www.portlandmaps.com to find out a bunch of other information about the property. It's a really handy resource. Nice call there Deb!! :)
