I don't think they make shingles out of asphalt. It might be a material that is very similar but with different properties. Have you contacted the owners directly to confirm with them yet?

Thanks for the tips. I didn't realize law was so complicated until now-- or at least, I didn't have to deal with its complications until now. I think I'll see a professional lawyer to sort my case out. I wouldn't want to make any mistakes.

I've actually never heard of them either. I would like to see if this is possible though. It sounds like that would be a very sturdy roof!

She's right, I have never heard of asphalt shingles before. I would suggest however sandblasting the asphalt on the cement around the house to make it smoother. It really gives it a nice almost new looking touch.

I didn't know those even existed. Do they make shingles out of asphalt in Sydney?

I don't know this house personally but it appears the home has asbestos tile (lap) siding. This is a very durable product and when i good condition a very safe product despite being asbestos. The listing describes it as asbestos siding.

Good luck!

Isn't asbestos illegal to use as a construction material? Is this an older house, or is the siding just called that? As for the asphalt shingles, it's difficult to see with the picture you've provided. I'm sure if you asked the homeowners they'd be happy to tell you.
