Contact Nicholas Delfino (203)515-0280. This is a local Home Improvement contractor that I have referred many times. He has over 30 years experience from small additions to 28,000 square foot homes, is licensed and insured and I've never received a negative experience from the clilents I've referred. He can direct you and deal with the zoning department if you wish.

Good luck.

Hi,
When a home owner wants to add-on major improvements, such as an additional bedroom or bathroom, town hall must be invited into the process to do it legally and avoid issues later at resale. Typically the architect (or if you are a do-it-yourself-er...you) submit/s the plans to the building department which in turn, if reasonable (based on several factors), will issue permits for the work to commence. At the next stage, when the rooms are famed out and plumbing lines/electrical in place, the town comes back in to inspect that the work is compliant to code, then the walls are sealed and work completed. The town comes in for the final stage, to review the finished product and, if acceptable, a final CO (certificate of occupancy) is issued and the town tax record ammended. Adding an additional bedroom and bath will definately increse your hom's value and in turn increase your taxable fair market value/assessment.
I hope this helps.
If you would like to view homes with the work already done to compare value, I would be happy to open doors for you!

Hello Na,

You should be able to expand this home based on the lot size, how strong the existing foundation is and other factors. You will need to obtain a building permit from the town of Fairfield: http://www.fairfieldct.org/permits.htm. I would recommend talking with a licensed contractor to obtain accurate information on expanding this home. If you need assistance in obtaining additional information on this pre-foreclosure property or similar properties, I will be glad to assist you.

Thanks,
Dahlia
