Please be aware of Internet scams, such as the one you mentioned, are becoming fairly common recently. The poster will take any publicly listed house for sale and post an ad stating it is for rent. If you respond, you will receive a response along the lines of sending a deposit or money to a certain PO Box and the lease and keys will be mailed to you.
The moral of the story:
Always work with an apartment locater/REALTOR to assist you in your rental search. Most services are free of charge to the renter, as it would be if you used me as your locater.
Your best course of action is to report the posting as SPAM.

If you would like my help in finding a rental home for you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I don't see it listed for lease only for sale. Where did you see the ad for lease?

Doesn't sound legit to me.

You need to ask the listing agent - it shows on MLS to be available FOR SALE but not for rent - Listing agent:
Patricia Trapnell (972)594-6000 Prudential office Cell: (972)594-6000 Email:

More to the point, this profiles a scam that showed up on one of my recent listings -- and they took money from at least 3 different "tenants" with nothing in return!! here's a link to my blog:…

Good blog post Norma. Same thing happened on one of mine a couple of years ago. It's borderline frightening, that's for sure!

Real estate transactions, either sale or lease, cannot be solely transacted through the internet and email. If someone will not talk with you in person you can be practically certain it is a scam. Don't fall for it - contact the listing agent with the info the other good agents here have provided.

I have gotten to the point that I tell people to not bother looking on Craigslist for properties. If a property is being legitimately marketed you'll find it somewhere else, not Craigslist.

Some of these are scams. I would be careful, especially if the rent sounds to good to be true. Most want money up front and are out of country. I would work with a Realtor that knows the area.
