I would focus on leasing now and work on your credit. Don't put the cart before the horse. Find a good lender who will work with you and a good agent to help you find a place. Depending on your credit problems you may be able to buy in as little as a year. The first thing is to get help and know and understand where your credit is going. That is the only way you will know you are moving it in the right direction.
Best of luck to you.

I have 12 years experience repairing credit and offer a free credit cosultation if you are interested. There are two steps involved in rebuilding your credit: 1. remove negative items from your credit report. 2. open up new accounts and keep them in good standing.
I'll be happy to explain further.
