There are no new lakes planned in Lamar County (around Paris) anytime in the near future. Paris owns Lake Pat Mayse, several thousand acres, in the north part of the county and is looking at potential for selling some water to other cities. It is a great recreation area with campsites and boat ramps maintained by the US Corps of Engineers. Long term, there may someday be a lake SE of Paris - now called Marvin Nichols after the engineering firm bearing his name who did preliminary work on the site. The lake is projected to be 60,000 acres, one of the largest -if not the largest - in Texas. Building such a lake, however, would take a very long time to overcome many obstacles. The Dallas/Ft. Worth area cities would be the providers of funds and primary users with a portion allocated for local communities.
