Prospect Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in the 1860's is a 585 acre urban oasis with a zoo, skating rink, large lake, jogging paths and bicyle lanes on the roadway. Green-wood cemetry is a beautiful 500-acre greenspace created in the 19th century garden cemetary movement is has miles of walking paths and many monuments of historical interest. South Slope has pool hall on the corner of 15th Street and 5th Avenue. There is a bowling alley in the adjacent neighborhood of Sunset Park. The Gowanus Dredger's Canoe Club provedes tours and publc access to recreation on Brooklyn's great estuary from 2nd Street and the canal in nearby Carrol Gardens.

Park Slope is right next to Prospect Park, a park designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, who also created Central Park. Used by 8 million visitors a year, this is one of New York City's crown jewels. Bolstered by a 20 year plan to restore the park to its original state, you can find beautiful waterfalls, walking paths and greens spread through the park. You can also arrange a tour of the Colonial Quaker cemetary if you wish. And with al that, there are still baseball fields, open greens where families picnic (fire allowed in special areas only) and bikers roam. Dogs are allowed, and can be off leash in the early morning and evening. There is a ring road which is used by both cars and bicyclists. Restaurants, especially along trendy 5th Ave, are excellent and they range in both style and cost. From Bistros to Indian Food to barbeque, you will find it here.
