Yes, "dog parks" allow off-leash running. Remember that Ward Acres isn't specifically a "dog park" with an enclosed run. They just allow off-leash running throughout the park. Each of "dog parks" has an enclosed are specifically for the dogs. You just need to know the rules governing each park. Kingsland Point, where I take my dogs regularly requires that the dog be licensed and you have the printout from the vet of his/her vaccinations. Then you can get the permit to bring your dog - they are quite strict - which in many ways is a GOOD thing because no dog gets exposed to something it shouldn't. Now, you can walk the dog ON LEASH anywhere in the park without the permit. Bark Park in White Plains does not have these restrictions. I live in White Plains, but there are too many dogs and the run is relatively small...so instead I make the trip to Kingsland Point a couple of times a week. I also am trying to do some business there. If you go to Kingsland Point, be sure to drop in at "Coffee Labs" on Main St. in Tarrytown right off Route 9 (Broadway) . Your dog will be welcome and you can give him a treat while you enjoy a gourmet cup.
