It's fascinating to me that a disclosure form, required by the New York Department of State, would give NYC a "pass" on this disclosure. If it's not in writing, it doesn't exist in real estate. While I understand that coops have a different interpretation, as a buyer, do NOT ASSUME ANYTHING- get the agreed to agency relationship in writing.
There are thousands of great agents in NY who be glade to help
NYC is big and you probable need to start with a size- # of rooms
amenities yard ,parking , subway
and of course the all important number price
Actually, it is a little different when it comes to having a buyer's representation - strictly in NYC and I do believe this applies to Brooklyn as well.
Vast majority of legitimate brokers in NYC are members of Real Estate Board of New York. ( REBNY). According to REBNY 's rule/agreement their members work under the folowing model: Seller's broker represents the seller , the broker who brings the buyer automatically represents the buyer. About 90% of all transactions in New York City happen with 2 brokers. As long as your broker is a member of REBNY you have representation with all loyalties to you. I am pretty sure this does not apply outside of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Here is members on rebny weblink http://www.rebny.com/members_websites_residential.jsp
Naveen, just make sure that whatever agent you work with is a buyers agent- otherwise, you're not getting the representation that you are entitled to. Best of luck in your search!
I will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding your search and the purchase process in NYC. Looking at properties is one thing but there is a lot more involved. Especially for a newcomer. Preparation is key in being able to to move forward and to be able to secure the right apartment once you find it. I am currently working with someone who is not from the US and it is definitely a more complex process..........
Please feel free to contact me any way convenient to you at any time.
Where in New York are you moving? If you will be working in Manhattan, finding a Manhattan place to accomodate 5 people will certainly put you in the 7 figures. There are fabulous neighborhoods in Brooklyn that are a great commute by subway to Manhattan. Make sure the agent you use is a REALTOR which means belongs to the National Association of Realtors and therefore has to subscribe to the highest code of ethics.
My firm specializes in listings in Sullivan County , N.Y. We are 90 miles northwest of NYC and a beautiful place to live. You can contact me at 845-807-1003.

Welcome to New York!
The first question is....where will you be working? What kind of commute do you wish to do? Do you have any idea about where you would like to live?
Once you have that, then we can begin to narrow your search into a more specific area. I think your starting point begins with the above questions.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions, I would be happy to try to answer them.
Naveen,

Please feel free to browse our website to view homes that are for sale currently. If we can be of any help, please either email me at sarah@rjsmithrealty.com or call me at (845) 744-2095, ext.218. Where in New York, upstate NY or New York City? If you're moving upstate NY, you'll be in a specific area, if you're moving to the NYC area, you can look for places in NJ, Westchester County, Connecticut, etc. If you're looking for a Pakistani community in the NYC area, you'll be able to find places in NJ, and probably some in Brooklyn although I'm not sure of the area. Good luck.
