What are the best family oriented areas with easy access to groceries, shopping and to the airport?

I'm thinking about moving to Orlando, FL.
I'd like some proximity to the Airport as I travel to work. We are a family with 2 young kids (5 and 2) and considering Orlando for the weather (we are from Brazil so hot weather is our thing), things to do with and without the kids, fairly close to the beach.
Good schools and family oriented neighborhoods are our priority, with easy access to groceries, restaurants and shopping.
Where are the recommended areas and areas to avoid?
Thanks for any input.

Hi Marcelo, I would have to recommend the Conway/Belle Isle area because of it's proximity to the airport and also downtown Orlando. Yet, with both of those being true, the area has kept it's beautiful tree lined streets and small community feel. This area surrounds the Lake Conway Chain of lakes which is a beautiful chain that is Ski-able and has several public access points. There are many neighborhoods with private boat access as well as parks and shopping. The beeline access is within 2 miles and leads you straight over to the beach. The prices vary greatly from the mid 100's to million dollar properties on the water. Check out my website to view the area better - http://www.BelleIsleHomeSource.com. Good luck!

Hi Marcelo,

Check out Harmony. http://www.HarmonyFL.com Takes about 25 minutes to get to the airport. It's about half way between Disney and the Atlantic. You can be at either in less than an hour. It's a great places for families.

To be close to Airport, Shopping Malls, Hospitals, Doctors Office, Schools, Churches and parks, the South East area of Orlando is a good area...Like everything else there are areas that are not the best but for all these commodities South East Orlando is the best..

Celebration, Florida is where you want to be.
Great community with bike trails and walking trails. A great downtown area where people meet and mingle.
A wide group of people from all wlaks of life.
We are 20 minutes to the airport and many pilots make celebration their home.
We are a Disney built community and it shows.
The beach is one hour away to the east and one hour and 15 minutes to the west.
The schools are top rated and the pricing could not be better.
I would be honored to assist you in your home search.

Avalon Park would place you about equal distances from The amusement Parks and The Beaches! Then you will also be within 2 hours of Tampa or Jacksonville - 1 hour to Daytona! Central Florida is a great location. You'd be about 20 minutes from the airport to make your travel a breeze. Chao!

For your top three criteria I'd say your two best bet's are going to be either Lake Nona area or Dr. Phillips. Both have easy access to the airport via the 528, great schools with family neighborhoods. Lake Nona has all the groceries and everyday things you will need close by and is now building it's retail area's up now. However the edge for shopping and things to do will go to Dr. Phillips with all the restaurants and shopping along sand lake rd West of I-4 then the tourist corridor along international drive just across the highway. Lake Nona will be closer to East Coast Beaches, but only by about 15-20 minutes.

Both are great choices with different neighborhoods to offer, price will also be a consideration as Dr. Phillips is a bit higher in price range than Dr. Phillips

I can't comment on areas to avoid, but I can recommend South Lake County. Lake County is a great environment for raising a family.and is less than 40 minutes to the airport for your travel requirements. As the name suggests we have many lakes that offer fabulous water sports, and either the east or west coast beaches are just a short ride away.

I have enclosed a link to the Lake County website, please check it out. http://www.lakecountyfl.gov.

Thanks, and I look forward to having your family as a neighbor some day soon!!!

FIRST ANSWER

Once farmland given over to celery and citrus crops, the city of Oviedo, located northeast of Orlando in Seminole County, is now a thriving bedroom community where residents enjoy a wealth of recreational pastimes including nature walks, bird watching, butterfly spotting, hiking, fishing, biking, airboat rides, and horseback riding. Rounding out the available activities are an 18-hole golf course, 3 aquatic facilities, an outdoor skate park, and concerts and football games at the nearby UCF Arena. Add one of the best school systems in Central Florida, easy access to 2 international airports, quick drives to the beaches and theme parks, and Oviedo makes for the coolest hot spot to live, work, and play.
