Because we have no idea what new orleans offers we need an agent to help us find a rental. what do they normally charge or do they get paid from the property owner? we are a young couple who loves art and cafes... any suggestions on areas? thank you sooo much

Alot depends on your budget and what kind of home you want..old Victorian, a shotgun, modern and what kind of amenities you need to have. Make a shortlist of what you MUST have, then use that together with a budget. Remember the rent is only part of your expense..consider utilities included or not and what kind of electric bill you will have. Parking can sometimes be a consideration also..especially in the French Quarter areas.

Agents are paid by the owners of the properties so sit back and enjoy your stay ! I have a house to rent on the Lakefront , a small and a large double house uptown and several apartments in the heart of the French Quarter .
The least expensive of these is $750 and they go up from there . Of course , any agent can show you any listed property so choose your agent by his or her familiarity with the area you like . Welcome .

Lilinkgirl, do you know what base you will be at? NAS JRB or NSA New Orleans? Both are on the West Bank, one in Belle Chasse, one in Algiers. Rentals are rare in the Belle Chasse area, but the Algiers base is close to Algiers Point, a historic district that is a ferry ride away from downtown New Orleans and the French Quarter.

As the other agents have pointed out, the fee is paid by the property owner, so no worries there for you. If you'd like more information on the area or how we can help feel free to contact us. We work with a lot of incoming military families and would be more than happy to provide references from previous clients.

Welcome to New Orleans!

Good Evening!

Congrats on your new orders to New Orleans - you'll love it here! I am a real estate agent and a military spouse - originally from New Orleans. We were away for several years and celebrated greatly when my husband had our orders to New Orleans to bring me home!!

To answer your question, when we work with clients for rentals, our fee is paid for by the seller. It is negotiated between seller and listing agent at the time of listing.

As for as suggestions on areas, depends on where you (he) will be stationed and desired commute. If you'd like to contact me, I'd be happy to assist you based on your specific situation. My email address and cell phone number is below.

Congrats again!
