I have a few questions for you to narrow down what is important to you. Basic rule of thumb, is anything inside the 128/95 beltway is within commuting distance. Price point and your style of living will determine if you would prefer the north, west or southern areas within the beltway.

Without specifics on your price range or size requirement, I would suggest Somerville or South Boston as an option for your move to the Boston area. Though they are not in the Boston proper core neighborhoods of Back Bay, Beacon Hill or South End, which tend to be pricey, both enjoy the convenience of city location, i.e. diversity and commutor convenience with the affordability of more space, parking and yard option.
