Jennyg, Both Buyer and Seller in 34104

Is Naples, FL a good place to relocate to with a family with young children? If so, what towns and schools would you recommend?

Asked by Jennyg, 34104 Mon Jan 16, 2012

I have three children, 4, 3, and an infant. We are looking to relocate to Naples because of my husbands job relocation. I don't know much about the area and need some advice. I have researched the schools and it seems some areas are better than others just like anywhere. Thanks for any help you can provide :)

Hello Jenny,

You are very fortunate to have the opportunity to relocate to Naples! I agree with all the comments below, I raised my son in Naples, he attended public schools from kindergarten to high school, and attended FGCU in Ft Myers for 4 years. He chose to stay afterwards because he could not find a better place to live- he loves riding his bike all over Naples for exercise- it's sunny almost every day here, and there are bike paths everywhere.

I have lived in Florida for over 40 years in 5 different areas, and when I moved to Naples 19 years ago I knew I had finally found my permanent home. Naples is special because it is a small city with a permanent population of 321,520 (2010 gov. estimate) with the amenities (schools, dining, golf, beaches, parks, music & arts, activities, improved road system, etc) of a larger city. That's because our #1 industry is tourism...(Collier county had 1.5 million visitors and created 1700 new jobs in 2012) you get the best of both worlds here!

If you have any questions, I will be happy to share my knowledge and experience, and help you find the best home and community for your goals. There are many beautiful areas to choose from, and I have lived here long enough to know them well.

Overall, Naples is a great place for families. I raise my family (pictured) here and I can't think of a better place in the world. There are great public and private schools and Naples is safe and has a relatively low crime rate. There are lots of parks open year-round and the Children's Museum.

I grew up here and moved away to other places including Europe. I still have yet to find a better place to live and raise a family.

But don't just take my word for it. One of my recent customers, Matt Birk of the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens, could have chosen almost anywhere to retire. He chose Naples to raise his six children (ages 1 to10). Naples is becoming more and more a destination of choice for families who want a conservative area with great weather and lots of outdoor activity. I wrote a blog article about living in Naples and what you can expect. It's referenced below.

Collier County (CC) is where Naples is located. Basically, Naples covers most of CC with the exception of Everglades City, The City of Naples, Immokalee, and some say Ava Maria. I don't advise on schools, but direct you to the school board for you to ascertain what exactly you want from your schools http://( Naples has a growing school age population. My suggestion is find a school(s) that meets your criteria first, then look for housing around that school. Then I'd be glad to help you find what you need. Once you know what your school choices are, then look to see what's available to meet your business needs. Call KathyBC 800-448-3411 ext 601. I have a check list designed to help you hone in on your housing choices, which are many. Good luck! (7/6)

I was told by a dal estate agent that you cannot move to Naples and be within waling distance to any amenities for anything less than $1 million. Don't you think this information is important to disclose?

Since I don't have children and don't know what you are looking for with respect to schools, please look at and gather the information you feel important, then I'll help you find properties that you will know will be suitable for your needs. County just decided children living withing 2 miles of school will not be bussed. KathyBC 800-448-3411 x 601...(6/12).

Jenny - Did you end up moving to Naples? We are considering looking for a business and moving to Naples. We have 2 lower school aged children and would love some input from someone who has possibly recently relocated.

Good Evening!

I know many families that find Naples a great place to live ... and raise children!

It really all depends on the specific needs of you and your family!

There are many great communities in Naples that would be good options for you and your growing family! Estero, FL is just a bit north and may be a good option as well! A lot of young families enjoy Estero and it is just a hop away from Naples if your husband will be working there!

Best advice- find a Realtor that you feel comfortable with who is willing to take the time to educate you on all of the different areas and options! The decision to relocate your family is a big one and the transition will be a lot easier if you are working with someone who knows the area well who will look of for your best interest!

Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions!

Best of luck on your search!

My best suggestion since you live in CC is to contact the schools that are closest to the areas you'd like to live Seagate Elem. on Seagate at US 41 and talk directly to the personnel. Since I don't know what's important to you that is the best, so the info is not filtered. That is what I suggest when you ask about crime, talk to the source...the police. Since you children are so young, things may change by the time they enter talking to several elementary schools may be the best and ask the questions most important to what are the test scores, how many parent volunteers are there, what other concerns you have. Since I don't have children, I can't begin to know what is most important to you now; it was so different back when. Call me if I can provide other property info...KathyBC 800-448-3411 ext 601....PSS Collier schools rank very high in the state.

I raised my son in the public school system here...something I would never have considered in several of the big cities I lived in over the years. I have lived in the area over 20 years and would be happy to answer any of your questions, and to help you find the right neighborhood for your family. You are fortunate to have the opportunity to move here, Naples is one of the most beautiful areas I have ever lived have to see it to believe it!

I can also set you up with a free service to provide you regular emails with properties that meet your needs. I would just need your criteria…price range, #of bedrooms and baths, House or Condo...etc. This service givecs community demographics, school ratings, crime statistics, as well as available for sale properties with photos, maps and property details, and the last 6 months sold property prices and addresses by area...all on one site! It's the client version of our multiple listing service, so the information it provides is more accurate than most sites.

Or, I can do a search for you and email the best properties that fit your wants and budget…I specialize in helping my clients find the best buys on the market, in all price ranges.

I Look forward to hearing from you and helping you find your dream home in our paradise of Naples!

Good day from Joey at Tropics Real Estate...on 5th Avenue in Naples...

Naples can be very, very family friendly...with the Collier County Water day at the Zoo for Collier County residents once a month...the New Children's Museum... and on and on and on...

While I can't specify specific is easy to identify the ones that work the best for your needs - and this might vary...during a property tour and search.. In the towns....that is easier....only three towns in Collier County.... and Naples or its Collier County equivalent might be the best - depending upon your needs.... Although Bonita Springs in Lee County and Estero area also strong competitors...

I can get more specific later when we visit together.... looking forward to it....

With Respect, joey

Hi Jenny --

Overall, Naples is a nice place to raise children. We moved here when my children were 9 and 12 years old, and have no regrets. You're correct in saying that some areas are better than others. However, to guide you, it would be helpful to have more information. Feel free to contact me at 239-248-6393, and I'd be happy to discuss Naples and the Collier County school system in more detail with you.

I moved to Naples when my son was born 12 years ago. I have found it to be a great place for a family and have been very pleased with the schools where my son is a gifted student and has excelled in testing results. I would be happy to assist you in locating a home in an area with good schools. Please email me your parameters (Price Range, Beds, Baths, Home Type) and I will send you some listings to review.
