Hi Loriann
Your message here is heartbreaking and hits home for me personally. I have a family member who similarly married a completely horrible and miserable person who seems to fit the mold of your stepmother. I'm not all that great at responding to the message boards but I wanted to because of your response. My highest and best suggestion for affordable San Diego housing is get onto Craigslist as there are always roommate opportunities.
I am lifetime native San Diegan and know everywhere in and around here well so if you want specific area info, etc feel free to bounce questions off of me as I'd be happy to provide you directions and help.

Mugjones, Sorry to hear about your situation Here's some links you may want to check out. You should also look into Catholic Charities. Explain your situation to all these folks. They may be able to help you out temporarily until you can come up with something more permanent. However, you may have to make some arrangements for the Scotties unfortunately. Not many of these homes have provisions for pets. Good luck.

There's no shortage of rotten people in the world. I'm very sorry to hear this has happened to you. And it's admirable that you're taking on your father's dogs; dogs are too often treated like property rather than a living, loving being.

You're going to like living in San Diego. I can tell you that much. I truly hope your situation works out.

I think a roommate situation it's a great idea, especially with a fixed income and the need for a yard. Craigslist is the best source for such listings. Please be careful about putting your personal information on display on the internet!

Good luck to you, I hope you find something soon.
