I've heard that it's sometimes hard to get folks to come to the Twin Cities area, but once they do then it's hard to get them to leave. This is a fantastic place to live!
Once you do come, I think it's best to pick your place to live based on an area you like rather then trying to move close to your job. I've seen lots of people move only to find that their job moves again shortly after. This is why I like living in the city (St Paul for me), so that I'm centrally located to the suburbs wherever my job takes me.
I used to do career counseling in the Twin Cities. The job market is currently depressed, though not as bad as California. The manufacturing sector is larger than in most states. For good income, I often referred people to SuperValu, which as a distribution center in St. Louis Park. The printing business is also big here, but I do not recommend it for long term as the industry is declining.
St. Paul is a great place to live! Here's a nice resource from the City of St. Paul's website to learn more about living here: http://www.stpaul.gov/index.asp?nid=185. Within the Twin Cities and surrounding suburbs, there are a lot of companies and manufacturing firms that may have opportunities for you. That same website also has links to online job databases: http://www.stpaul.gov/index.asp?nid=2480. If you have any questions, or need assistance with your relocation, I'd be happy to talk with you. Good luck! Sincerely, Breanna Vanstrom
