Ella,
I would consider the Lake Travis ISD. Their Dance Team is awesome and very competitive plus they have won a lot of awards. You also have several well know dance studios including the new TeXarts studio that opened up recently in the area. All the instructors there are professional teachers and have impressive dance backgrounds. I live and specialize in this area and can tell you this studio has added a lot to our area. I have included a couple of links to help you in your research and would be happy to help you in your home search or answer any other questions you may have.

Without a doubt the Eanes School District is one of the best in the state and Nation! Ther is a lrage and very active dance community at Westlake High Scool too with two separate teams, Higline and Starsteppers, both award winning and recognized dance programs. Check this school link: http://www.whshyline.com/

Alisa's Dance Academy has a very strong dance program for your daughter and they have studios in both the Eanes and Lake Travis areas. Thier competition team is fabulous. My daughter participates in the pre-professional program at TexArts in the Lake Travis area and the focus there is on musical theater - both dance and voice. If you'd like the names of people to contact with these two programs please feel free to let me know. Both the Westlake (Eanes) and Lake Travis high school dance programs are very strong if your daughter is interested in participating in competitive school programs.

Dear Ella,
You should check out the various local schools at these websites: http://www.SchoolMatters.com and http://www.GreatSchools.org. Then you can determine what school best fits your daughters needs. I wish you the best.

If she enjoys competition and dance, then Eanes is for her. The high school is ranked 52nd by Newsweek's poll of the best 1,000 high schools in the country, 32% of the teachers hold a master's degree or higher, and the very competitive dance team, Hyline, has racked up quite an impressive array of awards, which you can find here:

Set all this in the gorgeous and centrally located West Lake Hills, and you have the makings of a memorable high school experience. I have a senior at the High School and he is more than prepared for college and life beyond. My two middle schoolers, I'm sure, will be well prepared, too, when they graduate. The school district deserves it's great reputation. I live and specialize in West Lake Hills area of Austin and would be happy to help you in making the best decision for you and your family. Alisa's and Synergy are two great dance companies in West Lake.

Eanes ISD and Lake Travis ISD are the top school districts in the Austin area. Eanes ISD is closer to downtown Austin in the Westlake area. However, the home prices are higher. Tapestry and Ballet Austin are two great dance academies in Austin.

Hi Ella,
I agree with Russ! I taught in Eanes ISD for 13 years, 8 of those at Westlake High School. My eldest daughter graduated from there in 2008 with 19 college hours under her belt and is currently a junior in college. My middle daughter, the dancer, started her freshman year at Westlake today! Class sizes are very reasonable for a public school and students are able to develop strong relationships with teachers. The dance programs are excellent. You have two excellent choices between the two districts.

One other thing, Both our son and daughter recently graduated frmm Westlake High Scool and the comment that classes are over crowded is erronous. The class count is low and competetive with any schol in the state. Check the main website and plaese call for more information. I have been sio impressed with the schools out here and it was one of the main reasons we relocated here in the early 90's.

Ella,

A lot of times you'll hear Eanes is the best however consider this. While the Elementry and middle schools in Eanes are appropriately populated the High School, Westlake is huge and is way over populated, this is mainly because of Football and keeping the pool of talent as large as it can be.
Consider Lake Travis as a good alternative to Eanes.

Eanes ISD is probably the best. Westlake High School has been the highest rated public high school in Texas.

Hi Ella,

The school district that has a reutation for being the best is Eanes ISD. However, there are many great schools in the Austin Area. Westlake High, Westwood High and LBJ are ranked among the top 100 public high schools in the country by Newsweek.

See these ratings for additional information:

I really don't know much about the dance scene, but I'm sure I could ask around.
