Merced is a great area for families. The area near the college is a wonderful place to live. There are many established bike trails, great parks, students walk to college and school, people run, walk their dogs, socialize with no fear. The established neighborhoods are family friendly, and people from all over live here happily.
Of course there is some crime - but having lived here over 30 years it has never affected my lifestyle. You will be very happy here, although the summers take a bit of getting used to. There is a need for daycare, and you will find rents much lower.... more
