i am renting in downtown charleston and am being relocated for work to virginia. is there a SC law that?

allows leases to be broken with proof of job relocation? there is a law like that in place in VA but i didn't know about here?

You really need to read your lease to see if there is that option stated in it, if not your best bet is to see if the landlord will work with you and if not see if your employer will give you assistance in moving and getting out of your lease. good luck with the move.

Check with you employer and see if you can work this out with them. Many employers will pay for you to get out of your lease.

Not sure what lease form your landlord is using, but this link will take you to a pdf of the standard lease from the SC Board of Realtors, which would have been developed in conjunction with state laws. Your lease may provide you other options, but this is how the state frames up their standard lease and may be a helpful guide. Good luck.

FIRST ANSWER

As far as I know, there is no law like that in South Carolina. Certain provisions exist for members of the military but I don't think that will apply for the general public.

That being said, you can check your particular lease for loopholes. You may be able to get our for some other reason that your lease may allow for.

Also, check you lease to see if sublets are allowed. Worst case scenario, you can just find someone to take over your lease.
