Some folks prefer the idea of living downtown, and walking to restaurants and shops! Others want more privacy and prefer a few acres to themselves. Some what a neighborhood with sidewalks and parks!
I would suggest getting in touch with an agent and having them show you different types of neighborhoods and areas in and around Hagerstown. From there you can start to decide what things are the most important to you.
One of the best things about this area is I believe there is a good variety of types of properties to choose from! Feel free to give me a call if you would like some more information, I'd be happy to show you around!
Convenience addresses the daily use of the property as a home, restaurants, grocery shopping, schools, parks, entertainment, etc. Think of the things important to you in your daily activities and these same sort of conveniences are likely to be important to others as well. This factor carries over to resale value.
Stability of an area takes time to establish and is cyclic. Obtaining background regarding the common length of time surrounding property owners have owned their properties and the average length of time a property in the area takes to sell are simple criteria useful in gageging the desirability of an area. I am putting this in basic terms, but the concept is actually quite detailed. Communities have growth patterns and often turn over following patterns regarding the growth or impact of the events of its members. A good example is a community which has been stable for say 15 years. It might have a reputation for being a great place to raise families and so families tend to move in and stay until the kids move out. The families of that community have similar life cycles and hence their ownership needs are similar. This community will likely see a shift when the kids are near graduation as the families focus’ change.
Finally consider the growth potential of the community and surrounding areas. Are jobs being introduced to the area? Are their new homes being built close by? What are the reasons people choose that community and are those reasons long-term or short term?
I hope these thoughts help to guide you.
